1. While visiting Red Fox Trail, try to be like a
fox: walk quietly
and be alert for the forest's many sights, sounds and smells.
The forest is always changing. Strong winds blew a large tree
down causing a large hole in the canopy. What will happen in this area now?
Ahead
on the right is a side-trail that leads to the Flowline Trail which connects
with other trails. On the left is a downed tree that has been home to honeybees.
you might see some flying near an opening in the tree.
2.
What clues can you find here? Is there a mouse near that a fox could eat for
dinner? Look for chewed seeds, scratchings, hairs and other clues. A fallen tree
has lots of fungi growing on it. Do you think the fungi started growing on the
tree before or after it fell? Fungi like these grow horizontally and form
shelves.
