Citizen Science: iNaturalist & Seek Apps

If you love the outdoors as much as the Oxley Nature Center staff and Board do, you should get the apps Seek and iNaturalist on your smartphone. Both are free, and allow you and your family to be active members of the Citizen Scientist community. Seek is particularly good for those under 13, as one has to be 13 to open an iNaturalist account. Both apps help you identify and record all manner of flora and fauna you might encounter out on walks in the neighborhood or hikes in the outdoors.

There are a couple of special projects you can participate in on iNaturalist as well as some permanent projects you might like are Flora and Fauna of Oxley Nature Center, Turkey Mountain Urban Wilderness Area or Insects of America. The greatest thing about both of these apps is that it is like carrying several different types of field guides on your phone!
